Management Team
Prior to starting Pocket Ventures, the partners were the senior management team at Inside Communications, an enthusiast media company Magowan started in 1987 and sold to Competitor Group, an affiliate of Falconhead Capital, in 2008.
Felix Magowan
Felix is currently chairman of SpaceNews, Inc. Previously he conceived, funded and managed the start-up of Pocket Outdoor Media as both CEO and Chairman. Rebranded as Outside in February 2021, its 40+ active lifestyle brands make it the world’s largest creator of outdoor and healthy lifestyle content, distributed across television, web, social, print, book and event channels. Felix was Director of Business Development at Competitor Group (a $100MM diversified sports media and event company), co-founder & CEO of Inside Communications (VeloNews, Inside Triathlon, Ski Racing, VeloPress, VeloGear, VeloSwap et al), and a founding investor and board member at Pearl Izumi and Centurion Cycling. He was also an investor and board member at Skram Media (Climbing, Urban Climber, Mountain Gazette et al). Over his business career Magowan has been directly responsible for some 27 different acquisitions and divestitures.

Andy Pemberton
Andy has worked in media for 30 years. Andy is currently Chief Marketing Officer at SpaceNews, and was previously CEO at Pocket Outdoor Media, and COO at Panache Cyclewear. Prior to Panache Andy was the Publisher of VeloNews, where he guided the publication to record sales and circulation performance and was responsible for radically growing the interactive business and diversifying brand revenues. In 2003 he founded Town Green Media where he launched and published the Ozzie and Eddie award winning Wilton Magazine, which he later sold to Morris Media. Prior to that, Andy was Vice President and Publisher at Online Inc. where he was the Publisher of EContent magazine. He has held media-related positions including Group Vice President, Exposition Director, Director of Sales and Marketing, Advertising Director and Sales Manager. Andy earned a television Emmy award for his production work with ESPN on the 1992 America’s Cup yacht race. Pemberton holds a B.A. from Hobart College and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.

Greg Thomas
Greg has spent the past 20 years in the digital arena. His past work experience includes Apple Computer, Paul Allen’s Interval Research Corporation and early 2000 digital online sports coverage innovator Quokka Sports.
Greg is currently CEO at SpaceNews. Previously he was COO at Pocket Outdoor Media, Senior Vice President of Online at Competitor Group, and Chief Operating Officer for Inside Communications. While COO at Inside Communications he returned the company to profitability and was part of the management team that successfully sold the company to Competitor Group in 2008. Prior to this Greg worked as a Senior Producer for Quokka Sports, a premier online sports destination. He has also worked for technology incubator company Interval Research Corporation, and in the Human Interface Group at Apple Computer, Inc. He holds a B.A. from San Jose State University.
